Acids

Acids are a great tools in skincare for many reasons.

AHAs (Alpha-Hydroxy Acids) gently exfoliate and remove dead skin cells, and buildup that contributes to dry flakey skin.

I incorporate AHA with Amlactin Rapid Relief. It contains lactic acid which is a gentle exfoliant helpful for keeping the skin moisturized and stimulates collagen and can firm the skin. I use this a couple nights a week on the body only (not formulated for the face) on the night I don’t shave or use a physical exfoliant body scrub.

BHAs (Beta-Hydroxy Acids) have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that helps to cleanse the pore lining, and limits breakouts on the skin, helping spots disappear quicker and calm any redness.

I use Paula’s Choice Liquid Exfoliant in the morning after washing my face I put a few drops concentrating on my t-zone where I’m prone to blackheads. This contains Salicylic acid removes dead skin and bacteria and can clear the pores. If you find irritation from a leave on form of BHA, incorporating a dash wash with acids as a wash off product can be as effective with less irritation. Neutrogena and Cerave make great ones.
